BUCHURAGO

Buchurago Farm is located in the Kagera District of northwest Tanzania. The farm had undergone previous years of poor management and then experienced a major flood in the first half of 2020 which lead to severe compaction of the soils and water drainage issues. AVI was contracted to refurbish the land, infrastructure & equipment and develop the uncultivated area. The initial project area is 500 hectares and will expand each crop cycle until the total area reaches 7000 hectares. Major bulk earthworks have been required including bush clearing, drainage canal network, land forming and other supporting infrastructure.

The majority of the area is cultivated to maize and will shift to a 50/50 rotation with soybeans. Future plans include incorporating other field crops and an outgrowers program.
